Has anyone ever use a ford cooling fan off a Ford Taurus? I just picked one up really cheap and was impressed to say the least! I had a Zirgo that put out somewhere around cfm Claimed and did the job, but when going up hill in 90F plus weather it would get a little warm somewhere around F. So I decided to give this fan a try, well the results were amazing!

I had to add a bosch 75 amp relay and upgrade to 8 gauge wire, and I also added a controller that would kick in at But all in all that was the best money I have dropped in a while.

If you have any cooling issues this is the ticket by far. Last edited: Jun 23, Yeah, Taurus fans are all the rage in the Mustang community. Slim, fairly compact and do an awesome job of cooling.

I went a different route on my setup with an '89 Thunderbird SuperCoupe fan. Does a superb job of cooling! It's really no bigger then the zirgos or spal's, just a little thicker. Look into the amp draw on spool up for those fans.

Put a heavy duty high load capable relay in the system for that deal. Yes the mustang and off-road guys have been using these for a while. Like said.

Compact and just work! I just tried out my dual fan setup from a contour I didn't have enough room b etween the pully and rad for a single fan and my car has never run so cool with just the low speed. JohnnyJun 22, Yeah that's another thing, my firewall is waaay cooler.

As far as amp draw i used a really good relay, good thick multi strand wire, and a good controller.

As for amperage, you would need about a amp on low speed, and a 40 amp on high speed. It puts out a bit over cfm on high. Low was if I recall.Contact Us. Log In Register. Search Titles Only. The Taurus Fan Project - System: Taurus E-Fan, Volvo Relay, BMW Sensor

I chose the Taurus fan because it really sucks. Sucks a lot of air through the radiator that is don't know the CFM, sorry.

I've searched high and low for a cost effective suitor to control thisTaurus fan I bought. The best method I've found to achieve my goal is using the fan control relay out of a Volvo part number The reason I really like this option besides cost is that it will run both speeds of the fan.

Most of the controllers I looked at only use one speed. To run both speeds though, it requires a trigger for each speed. Enter the BMW switch. These can be found on the I, TI, and the Z3. The other nice thing about these switches is the fact you can get it in two temp settings, depending on the thermostat you are running.

One switch part has the low speed kick on at F, while the high kicks in at F. The other switch part has the low speed kick on at F, while the high kicks in at F.

I run a thermostat, so I went with the first switch. I got all of it for under 10 bucks. The Taurus fan covers a good portion of the radiator.Forums New posts Search forums. Media New media Search media. Resources Latest reviews Search resources. Log in.

I got out a spare radiator and was sizing things up trying to decide how i'm going to mount it and thought i'd take a pic of the Taurus fan next to it for everyone to compare it to. The best thing i think about the MVIII fan is that the shroud is almost perfectly sized to cover the whole radiator The down side is that it's really "thick" and if you're running a supercharger or something that takes up front-engine real estate then it'll take up too much space.

You might also have issues with a thick 3 core radiator that sits further back than the stocker. It's only a 1 core but if it'll cool down a DOHC 4. The Taurus fan is a little thinner but requires a lot more trimming to get the shroud to sit flush on the radiator really important IMO if you're gonna use it Otherwise, my buddy figured out a way to suspend the fan without the shroud inside his stock fan shroud Anyways hope that helps someone. It pushes way more air and fits better in most cases. Dec 11, 32 0 0 Washington.

I agree about the Mark fan - only one I'd use again.Discussion in ' Technical ' started by ESampsonDec 2, Log in or Sign up. Taurus fan CFM? Well i searched and couldn't really come up with besides one person saying maybe CFM?

ESampsonDec 2, My guess on the 2-speed is closer to cfm on high. I do know it wanted to lift off the ground when I was testing it on the driveway. The real biggie is the shroud fit. Make sure your drawing the air over as much of the core as possible. IF you go with an aftermarket fan keep the shroud design in mind.

You can have a high cfm aftermarket fan but if its mounted in the center of the rad and a small diameter with no shroud your rad just got real small at low vehicle speeds. This is mine of a Jeep Liberty. Fits well in my car. ESampsonDec 3, I thought the Tarus fan was cfm low cfm high. RickDec 3, PA Vehicle: '70 Maverick Grabber. Problem is there's no standard way to measure fan cfm so the different manufacturers can claim almost anything they want.

I only know that mine sounds like a hurricane when it starts up You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content. Share This Page Tweet. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now.Forums New posts Search forums.

Taurus fan CFM?

You are using an out of date browser. It may not display this or other websites correctly. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. May 18, 2 19 Cleveland, OH.Considered to be the most powerful electric fan you can use from either OEM or the aftermarket. Is very popular with the Hot Rod and Muscle crowd as well as used in Offroad buggies etc.

I bought mine off eBay using this search from rde which is a good source for them and want to thank him for sending it all the way to me in Australia and looking after me on postage cost. Don't buy the new copies as they would not guarantee they would put out the same CFM, only that they would fit!

They also used them, as fitted stockhorizontally. I went for a completely different approach and fitted it vertically so that a lot of the shroud hung below the radiator. This made for a easy fit and allowed me to fit a auto cooler in the lower section which answered a problem I have had for a long time, how to get a bigger cooler in without restricting and heating up the radiator behind it.

The old fan pulley, and part of its support, is removed to fit this fan in place as covered in this fan install. The fan was positioned so that exactly the height of the auto cooler I used mm was hanging below the bottom of the radiator support panel. Slots were cut out of the shroud so that it would slide over the old tabs for the stock Jeep shroud.

The left side left photo above which can be expanded also had a L bracket riveted in place below the slot to fix it to the old tab on that side. Notches were also cut at the top to clear the core support and top panel so that the shroud sit hard against the core.

In the right photo above it shows how I have filled in a cut out in the shroud using a flower pot riveted into place. Also shows how I had to cut back the lower section so only that tab shown is left to clear the inside frame rail.

A bracket was also fixed right at the bottom to support it. You can see above how the side was cut out to clear the inside frame rail on a RHD. The right photo shows how it was cut around the top panel. I also changed the bolts that hold the motor to the shroud with counter sunk screws for more clearance. The photo above shows another view of the shroud trimmed to fit around the top support panel.

A piece of thin angle was used to support upper part using the bonnet catch rod and another threaded hole that was already there.
